Blaze

Visuals for the west-end dance show BLAZE. http://www.msavisuals.com/blaze http://www.blazetheshow.com The Times - "The aptly named Mega Super Awesome Visuals Company eventually makes selective use of every available surface as a screen upon which to project a dazzling variety of digital graphics, from animated landscapes and pulsating lights to oozing liquid and raging flames." The Guardian - "Es Devlin's clever set, constructed from piles of boxes, cupboards, TV screens and doors, gives the dancers plenty of levels to move on, and, better still, functions as a three-dimensional screen on which the lighting and video team can project their most astonishing effects. A B-boy trio performing against images of melting snow acquire a rare luminous purity; Lizzie Gough (also a finalist from So You Think You Can Dance) becomes a fiercely demonic figure, conjuring a kaleidoscopic storm of flashing light." Financial Times - "Here is the most blissfully energetic, sassy, to- hell-with-everything-except-street-dance show. And it is superbly designed by Es Devlin ... Devlin has, tremendously, placed the action against a wall of grey, office-equipment- suppliers’ drawers and the occasional ice-box and a single bath. These serve as background, exits, launching pads for dance. There is stunning lighting by Patrick Woodroffe and Adam Bassett, and amazing video projections." Too Much Flavour - "the projection effects were sensational at extending the effect of the routines. Although the back wall of the theatre was an odd construction made up of what appeared to be stacks of drawers when lit fully, come time for those projections and the wall burst to life with action. Memo Akten and Robin McNicholas did an amazing job at putting it to use. One of its best uses was a solo from Lizzie Gough controlling a projected ball of light with her choreography making it a visual treat to watch." The Arts Desk - "This is a show blazing with talent and young exuberance, and it will rejuvenate you faster than a Red Bull. " Ballet.co.uk - "van Laast has the showman’s touch and ‘Blaze’ is brilliantly designed by Es Devlin with a backdrop of cases, trunks, storage boxes and even a fridge, apparently piled on top of each other from floor to ceiling and cleverly concealing platforms, a trampoline, and the potential for pools of light and access points. It also provided texture for the brilliant video design by the appropriately-named Mega Super Awesome Visuals Company – there’s no point in hiding your light under a bushel when you’re this good!"

we love (bpitch control) promo

WE LOVE are Giorgia Angiuli, (a.k.a metùo), music performer, collector of fragrances and Piero Fragola (a.k.a. Werk Design), graphic designer and videoartist. The project started on a cold Winter Sunday in 2009. On returning from their holidays, they randomly met young music producer and remixer Marco Palazzo (a.k.a. Keith) in a railway station; a collaborative project with him soon began, resulting in their first and homonymous album on Bpitch Control. It is again in a railway sta- tion that they created their first composition “Escape Destination”, followed by another 9, all connected to one another by the unifying theme of visions and travel (“When the window of a train takes you somewhere.” - WE LOVE.) The Band’s acoustic and electronic instruments charm with their bichromatic, black and white allure: a vintage heart-shaped guitar, a contemporary design self-made midi controller (which was sponsored by Italian I&S furniture and fashion design company), a drum machine, and two keyboards, complementing Piero and Giorgia’s voices. Their objective is to explore the relationships between various forms of aesthetic expression, such as sound, visual art, fashion and design. WE LOVE are not “just another electro band”: their consistent collaboration with professional artists (amongst whom are David Campanini, Diana Ferri, Jamaica De Marco and Elliot James Shaw) has produced original performance pieces. The band’s bichromatic video art provides the backdrop for the amazing pair of “soldiers of love”’s live sets, which are embellished by romantic and evocative contemporary style clothes and masks. Art visuals caress the stage set with luminous random movements, as in a stream of consciousness gushing out of everyday life. Actions rapidly take place one after the other, and one often feels overwhelmed by countless fleeting external stimuli as blank sheets of paper vanishing into nothingness. In an innermost dimension of vision, there is always something which prevents us from being transparent: LOVE.

Phosphenes

'And in the bloodlit dark behind his eyes, silver phosphenes boiled in from the edge of space, hypnagogic images jerking past like a film compiled of random frames. Symbols, figures, faces, a blurred, fragmented mandala of visual information.' -W Gibson Phosphene: : a luminous impression that occurs when the retina undergoes nonluminous stimulation (as by pressure on the eyeball when the lid is closed) I feel as though I have lived mostly at that intersection between waking and sleep - meandering near the border between awareness and hallucination. Maybe that is the way everyone feels, I dunno, I can only speak to my own experience. 'Phosphenes' is an excerpt from '26 Suicides'. 26 Suicides is a 27 chapter, non-narrative new media art work. **26 Suicides was initially designed to use surround sound and multi channel video to deliver an enveloping, synesthetic experience. 26 Suicides is currently being remixed as a virtual reality art experience.** It is the personal and intimate testimony of my synesthetic life. The 26 Suicides installation uses 10 audio (surround) sound channels and 8 video channels to deliver an enveloping, synesthetic experience. The videos here on Vimeo are excerpts. They are single channel video with stereo audio, offering a taste of the installation. Watch them if you are not afraid of dangerous modern art. generative nights live at DokFest Lounge 2015

generative nights is an exploration of a dark urban world in which humanity struggles with infinitely replicating micro-machines. Their growth and bursts are hypnotic and scaring. It is your choice whether to enter the mob... or not! Based on cellular automata, the first part of generative nights is a unique experience of mechanical audio and graphical patterns. The steady rhythms and the pixellized visuals combine into pictures that evoke industrial halls, cities at night, or biologist's lab bench. Humanity progressively takes control over the machine in the second part. The haunting vocals turn gigantic primitive totems into goddesses who take care of the city at night. Moved by the shamanic rhythms of the loops, luminous vestals, dancers in the dark, and flying guardians, half yamakasi/half angels, haunt the buildings while the city asleep traverses its dreams of fame and wrath. Alas! mankind freed from its mechanical slavery is caught back by its demons of power and vanity in the last part of the piece. The drawing machine brings the performer's limbs into play but fails as Deus ex Machina. The hand of fate traps the melancholic solitary wanderer, its memory is nothing but a vanishing tattoo on a dusty ground...

ILLUMINATED IMMERSION

A HYPER ISLAND STUDENT PROJECT We illuminate the nature surrounding us - in which we all are immersed. Aiming to visualize the energy and life force of nature which is easily forgotten in the fog of urban and digitized society, we intend to remind the viewer of nature's forgotten spirit. Our way of interpreting nature results in projection of visuals that express pulsating energy fields, streams of luminous organisms and graphical animations of wildlife on to elements of nature in a remote part of a wooded area in Hägersten. By doing so we wish to remind you of the immersion of light and power of our nature. We had a few guidelines we had to follow. We were giving a 30 second music track and we had to start in a circle and end in a circle. Illusionix | John Vega | Make the music for this visual!

SCORE THIS VISUAL automatic handwriting part one by John Vega genre: video art, algorithmic 3D art, performance visuals media: DVD, live performance, online, iPhone variations released: 2000-2003. 'automatic handwriting part one' is a series of 3D animations based upon my Hyperstills series of algorithmic, 3D images. The four works that make up automatic handwriting part one lead the viewer on a mesmerizing, meditative journey through the portals of conscious existence into an abstract world. Exotic forms stretch across the matrix of time and space. Fire morphs into wind, into turbulent smoke-infused water, and hints at the secret source of all Elements. I have freely shared the source footage from AHP1 with many artists, VJs and other performers for re-mix and use in multimedia visual events. The original, long-form animations were created for the theatrical piece 'The Tibetan Book of the Dead' an Asia Society Production with original music by Philip Glass. The piece debuted in NYC in 2006 and was re-imagined by Katsura Kan in 2009 with a performance in Boulder, Colorado. John Vega's digital art is not only visually stimulating; it's full of thought-provoking fantasy worlds and nerve-scintillating imagery. Vega's turbocharged digital art work inspires and is a meditative investigation of the possibilities inherent in the new media environment. -- Mark Amerika EXHIBITION/PERFORMANCE ------------------------------------------------------- 2010 Energy Art Salon Chicago 2009 Luminous Emptiness with Katsura Kan 2009 Joost Network 2008 Steve Roach Concert Visuals 2007 404 Festival 2006 Art Basel [PAM] 2006 Scope Miami [PAM] 2006 Scope London [PAM] 2006 Split Film Festival [PAM] 2006 The Name Festival [PAM] 2006 New York Video Festival [PAM] 2006 Darklight Festival Salon 2006 KAIROS DVD by Steve Roach 2006 Prix Ars Electronica 2006 FILE Festival 2006 Perpetual Art Machine [PAM] 2006 Live Performance With Philip Glass 2005 404 International Festival 2005 CULTURETV 2005 Event Art Gallerie 2005 ART VIBES Miniseries 2005 Pixel Pops! 2005 Commercial DVD 2005 Live Performance BMOCA 2005 Live Performance TOOL 2005 Live Performance Steve Roach 2005 SCANDALE 2005 Live Performance AMODA 2005 SCANDALE 2005 Live Performance AMODA 2004 Live Performance Steve Roach> 2004 C-E-N-T-E-R Art Project 2002 [di]fusion live feed

Ale + Raymond :: A Chinese Wedding Film :: The Estates of Sunnybrook | Toronto ON | Dave Thomas Visuals

People More. Weddings Less. I believe every film, wedding or otherwise, should be a reflection of those in it. Every decision should be inspired and relevant to those characters or that story. For a while my wedding features were long, 45+ minute pieces that were very much driven by soundtrack. Sometimes I would let a classic bridal hair and makeup montage go on for several minutes, or the duration of an entire song. They were great quality, but they used the same old wedding film paradigms and, for lack of a more pretentious term — they were boring. This season more so than any other I am driven to break through, and steer my productions away from some of these paradigms. By focusing my attention on getting to know the couple and what makes them special, and focusing less on the wedding. Whatever it is that makes them special, it’s my job to use it to make a well-documented reflection of what their relationship is at this point in time — on their wedding day. In the simplest terms: find what makes the couple different, and throw everything else out the window. You know they’re getting married because they’re in love — but what’s special about that love? For Ale and Raymond the most obvious (and meaningful) answer was their commitment and devotion not only to each other but to their faith. Their ceremony and vows provided the opportunity to allow God to be “present in this place” almost as a separate character in their love story. So it only made sense to use this as the thread that sewed their highlight together. The blending of Cultures: was also something I wanted to emphasize. Ray is originally from Hong Kong and Ale a small town in Colombia. Again their ceremony allowed this “blending” to take place through the translation of priest’s words.
